Seafood may get much of the attention around the island, but sometimes nothing hits the spot after a day on the beach quite like a great burger. From classic half-pounders to smash burgers and Folly-style creations, there are plenty to choose from.
So where should you go when the burger craving hits? Here are five of our favorites.
Lowlife Bar — “Mother’s Double Cheeseburger”
Lowlife has developed a serious following for its food, and the Mother’s Double Cheeseburger is one of the reasons why.
Grilled onions, cheddar, shredded lettuce, pickles and Momma’s secret sauce come piled onto a sesame roll and are served with waffle fries, spicy ketchup and a house pickle.
It’s messy, filling and exactly the kind of burger that feels right at home at a laid-back Folly Beach bar.
Rita’s Seaside Grille — “Rita’s Cheeseburger”
A longtime Folly favorite just steps from the beach, Rita’s serves up a serious cheeseburger.
The half-pound burger comes topped with lettuce, tomato, red onion, cheese, Rita’s sauce and a dill pickle on a brioche bun.
Come hungry, and if the standard version isn’t enough, take it another step with a fried egg and applewood-smoked bacon or caramelized mushrooms and onions.
Lost Dog Cafe — “Bacon Cheddar Burger”
Lost Dog may be best known for breakfast and brunch, but don’t overlook the lunch menu.
Its Bacon Cheddar Burger is hand-pattied, juicy and loaded with exactly what you’d expect from a great bacon cheeseburger.
Want to make it a little more interesting? Add Colorado pork green chile for some extra flavor and heat. Just remember that Lost Dog is a breakfast-and-lunch spot, so don’t wait until dinner to go looking for it.
The Bounty Bar — “Bounty Burger”
The Bounty Bar has quickly become one of the go-to spots in the heart of Folly, and burgers are a big part of the appeal.
The Bounty Burger keeps things refreshingly simple with an 8-ounce beef patty topped with cheddar, lettuce, tomato and red onion on a sesame seed bun.
Sometimes you don’t need to reinvent the burger. You just need a really good one, a cold drink and a laid-back Folly Beach bar.
Koko’s on the Pier — “Big Kahuna Smash Burger”
The restaurant at the Folly Beach Pier has a new name, a new concept and a new burger worth checking out.
Koko’s on the Pier replaced Pier 101 in 2026, bringing a tropical-inspired menu to one of the best dining locations on the island.
The Big Kahuna Smash Burger features a smashed beef patty with American cheese, grilled onions and house pickles on a toasted bun, with Koko sauce on the side. Add bacon if you want to take it up another notch.
And, of course, it’s hard to beat enjoying a burger while sitting over the sand with the Atlantic Ocean right outside.
