Fishing the Folly River

The best part about fishing on Folly Beach is that it is a great activity that you can engage in year-round.

Whether you decide to go it on your own or join a private fishing charter, you can expect to catch several different local species, including red drum/redfish/spot tail bass, black drum, spotted sea trout, flounder, sheepshead and shark.

If you would rather hire an expert guide, there are a number of inshore and nearshore fishing charters that aim to make each trip special for everyone in your group. Area captains are all experienced anglers who will work hard to help you land a catch and have a memorable time out on the water.

Guided options entail Inshore Fishing Charters where you can enjoy excursions led by a local captain who will show you the area’s best fishing spots.

The Nearshore Fishing Charter is a boating trip geared toward the angler who prefers those harder-to-reach fishing holes. Charters departs from various docks, ramps and the marina.

Another unique opportunity is Kayak Fishing, where a local guide will join you in the saltwater estuary behind Folly Beach, allowing you to access areas and fish that are inaccessible to others. The stealth and quiet component of a kayak also provides an added advantage over other anglers using boats.

For any of their private charters, please remember to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, water, drinks and snacks. Additionally, for the Boat to Beach Excursion, it is recommended that you also bring beach items such as a towel, chair and a bag for shell and shark tooth collecting.

Every tour departs from the dock at their location on Bowens Island, which provides free parking and restrooms.
