Tips if you want to get married on Folly Beach

Charleston destination weddings are all the rage these days but you if you’re seeking a slightly more affordable option that’s still in close proximity to downtown, Folly Beach is the way to go. Besides, there’s nothing more romantic than a coastal wedding, and the beach also makes for a fun and relaxing place to entertain your closest friends and family. In the event that you consider Folly for your special day, here are some tips and advice to remember.

There are local accommodations that double as wedding venues. If you are looking for convenience, than you might want to research the hotels and inns on Folly Beach. Not only can you reserve a block of rooms for your guests, but you can host your wedding right on the beach or the waterfront. Some places even provide full service catering and banquet event space so you don’t have to go off site for your reception. For a more intimate ceremony, you might want to look into the smaller inns, which offer elopement packages that you can pair with spa services.

You can’t drink alcohol or host receptions on the beach. It’s tempting to pop open a bottle of the bubbly immediately following a beach betrothal, but you’re going to need to hold that thought. The City of Folly Beach prohibits the consumption of alcohol on the beach and receptions are verboten as well-because let’s be honest you’re most likely going to have an open bar at a reception. However, if you have a beachfront rental you can imbibe on your property, and as alluded to above if the wedding is held at a hotel or inn you never have too far to go for your next adult beverage.

Pelican Watch Pavilion is available to rent for a beachfront wedding. The 1,200-square foot Pelican Watch Pavilion is the only beachfront rental facility in Charleston County. The two-story shelter located within Folly Beach County Park provides an affordable, laid back wedding venue with direct beach access.

Larger event homes are available for rental. Folly Beach offers rental properties that are specifically geared toward hosting bigger parties that are celebrating special occasions such as weddings or family reunions. Many listings are oceanfront homes or villas with picturesque views.

There are spectacular photography backdrops for wedding pictures. Whether it’s the Folly Beach Pier or the iconic Morris Island Lighthouse, there is no shortage of scenic sights on Folly to snap some unforgettable, romantic wedding photos. Or you can mix it up and book a sunset boating tour, where you might even glimpse a pod of dolphins.
