Raincheck! Mark your calendars, ‘cause the Taste of Folly street party is next Saturday
Hold onto that appetite for one more week, folks, because the Taste of Folly has been moved from its originally scheduled date of this weekend to the next.
According to Taste of Folly director, Ben Bounds, “Due to severe weather forecast for Saturday, which includes possible thunderstorms, we have postponed the Taste of Folly street party to next Saturday, Jan. 28, from 11am to 5pm. The Signature Series Bartender Challenge and Cocktail Competition will go on as scheduled Friday at Tides from 7pm to 10pm.”
Clearly, postponing the festival was not a decision entered into lightly – it’s safe to say everyone was looking forward to one of Folly’s favorite (not to mention most satiating!) events.
“This decision was made by the Folly Association of Business board members, in conjunction with the City of Folly Beach leadership and Public Safety. As always, we appreciate your support and understanding in keeping the safety of our residents and visitors first,” says Bounds.
As they say, every cloud has a silver lining. Since there will quite literally be storm clouds rolling through out little beach town this weekend, the silver lining we all have to look forward to now is a sunny next Saturday filled with food and fun.
Per the norm, the party will shut down Center Street to pack four blocks full of festivities. Local food vendors will be out in full force, feeding the Folly masses their delicious fare. Foodie-themed highlights include the annual chili cook-off, as well as the hotdog eating contest. Local food vendors will also be vying for the coveted title of “Best in Show.”
A family-friendly event, the Taste of Folly will have plenty to entertain little ones – think carnival games, face painting, and other kids’ activities. Other highlights of the festival include the server “Olympics,” and two auctions (a silent auction and a date auction) with proceeds benefitting local non-profits.
And because it simply wouldn’t be Folly without some killer music, Americana group Dallas Baker & Friends will be on hand, along with jazz band Me & Mr. Jones, to deliver a stellar live soundtrack for the day as it unfolds.
So be sure to revise your calendars accordingly, friends! You don’t want to miss this food-centric festival coming to Folly Beach next Saturday.
