Porchfest 2014

Charleston Song has picked up a fun community project that originated in Ithaca, New York, and has spread to over a dozen cities in the US in an effort to bring people together through music.  The project, Folly Beach Porch Fest, is set for this weekend, November 15th, from 2-5pm.  Wander through the streets and neighborhoods and enjoy local acts who will be set up on porches and in yards throughout the area. The event is free and open for all ages.

The original Porch Fest occurred in Ithaca in 2009 and caught on fire.  As other cities added festivals of their own, it caught the attention of residents at Folly Beach. They quickly jumped on the bandwagon and instituted a Porch Fest of their own, which will allow many of our best local musicians to hang with fans in comfortable and intimate surroundings. If successful, the organizers hope to make this an annual event.

The inaugural event has gained attention and sponsorship from several large companies on Folly. The Juice Joint and RM Buck Builders are sponsoring the musical event and have been integral in helping to organize the schedule. Chico Feo is also sponsoring an after party for participants and music lovers to get in one last jam session for the day and will go from 5pm until the last person heads home.

Come out for this free and fun event. Bring the kids. Pets are welcome too, but please keep them on a leash. The schedule and locations for this year’s Porch Fest are as follow.
