Planning Folly for 2015

What an incredible year for Folly Beach! Thousands of visitors flocked to the shores for the summer. Folly Festivals made new records for attendance, with many new vendors, artists and craftsmen lining the streets. Surf camps were swollen to near bursting with eager young people learning the sport, and McKevlin’s Surf Shop rocked out hip new boards and accessories to the legions of surfers that take over the Washout.

With such a successful year, Folly Beach is looking ahead to create even more diverse fundraisers and fun events on the Pier and in its park. Weddings are being booked daily, and bachelor/bachelorette parties are being scheduled at many of the fine restaurants located at the beach. New hotels, bed and breakfasts and rentals are filling up fast for the upcoming 2015 season.

If you are thinking about heading to Folly Beach next year, it’s a good idea to think about checking availability now. Rates are lower before the high season begins next Spring, so consider a winter’s trip and enjoy a peaceful weekend listening to the waves rolling in. The beach during the winter has a different flavor and appeal, and surfers/windsurfers still delight in gearing up in wetsuits to practice for upcoming tournaments.

Blu, the popular Tides Hotel’s restaurant, is a great place to sit on the deck and enjoy a cocktail while feeling the chilly breeze kiss your cheeks.

Surf fishing during this time is a great way to spend an afternoon as well, as different fish hit harder during cold weather. Folly River is teeming with trout this month, and oysters are fresh for picking. Shrimp season is now over, but there is an active fish population skimming the waters and waiting for you to catch them.

Boat rentals are available during the off-season as well. Take a tour of the Edge of America and spend time on the Folly River. Float seamlessly through still waters before the weather turns stormy in the Spring and heat takes over the Summer months.

Folly Beach is great throughout the entire year, so make plans to come visit soon. We can’t wait to have you here.
