New Years Eve Folly Beach 2014

Folly Beach is a hotbed of activity much of the year, and New Year’s Eve is no different. There will be a multitude of celebrations on the beach and up Center Street with many options for having a good time. If you plan to be on Folly Beach for the holiday, make sure to plan ahead to attend and take note of these Folly exclusive events.

The Tides Hotel is hosting a New Year’s Eve Beach Bash with a huge buffet, cash bar, and a champagne toast at midnight. Live music by DJ Wade and the Midnight City Band will be rocking the crowd as the party progresses toward midnight. Fireworks will highlight the evening on the beach, as onlookers toast and kiss under the moonlight. Complimentary party favors and hats will be provided for the festivities, so come out to play on the beach at Blu!

Loggerhead’s is changing their New Year’s Eve party to include two appetizer stations with 5 choices for dinner with dessert included.. A $30 ticket will reserve your seat from  8-10pm for a dinner that includes jerk chicken and jerk shrimp skewers, tuna and other delicious treats displayed on two beautifully decorated tables. Dinner options will include chicken, fish, beef and pork with a vegetarian meal also available. Guests will hear the Soulfish Duo play beginning at 10pm and are welcome to stay for the cash bar. Patrons who enjoyed dinner at Loggerhead’s will also receive a champagne toast at midnight.

The 3rd Annual Flip Flop Drop will occur on Center Street at midnight. Mayor Tim Goodwin’s wife, Charlotte, organized this fun event back in 2012, and it’s become a popular destination for Folly residents. Flip flops, brightly lit by LED lights and reaching over 8 feet tall, are lifted high in the sky and slowly dropped. Afterward, spectators may view the fireworks from the ocean lighting up the night sky. Center Street will be shut down for this event, so keep this in mind if you plan to attend the Tides celebration.

Just after the Flip Flop Drop occurs, turn to Woody’s Pizza to see their homemade meatball drop as well! The meatball seems to get bigger every year, so don’t miss this innovative way to bring in the new year. You’ll most likely never see anything quite like it again.

In addition to all these fun activities, other restaurants and bars will be open with food and drink specials. A casual evening with a pub crawl might just be what the doctor ordered. With a plethora of establishments lining up the streets, New Year’s Eve on Folly will never be dull. After the drops and fireworks are over, head to the Sand Dollar to hear Head Rush close out an eventful evening.

On New Year’s Day, plan to attend the Freeze Your Bills Off Polar Plunge on Front Beach behind the Tides. Attendees are invited to dress up as their favorite Bill Murray character. Competitions will be held with awards being handed out for Best Guy, Best Girl and more. The plunge will be held at 1pm with signups beginning at 11am. Judging for this fun event will begin at noon. If you’re lucky, you might just see the star himself running alongside you into the ocean!
