Folly Beach Lifeguard Camps

Are you a good swimmer, and do you enjoy helping people? Consider being a lifeguard! Being a lifeguard is a great experience for young people to serve their community and help save lives. Skills needed are great swimming, the ability to pay attention to your surroundings, and quick responsiveness with a level head to a potentially dangerous situation. The Folly Beach Recreational Department is offering courses to teenagers to help them learn and refine these abilities through a Junior Lifeguard program this summer.

Summer camps run from June through August with the following schedule:

June 9-13, ages 10-11

June 16-20, ages 12-13

June 23-27, ages 14-15

June 30-July 3*, ages 10-11

July 7-18, ages 15-16

July 21-25, ages 12-13

July 28-Aug 1, ages 14-15

Aug 4-8, ages 12-13

Teenagers who are interested in signing up for a camp must participate in a swim test at the James Island County Park Splash Zone on either May 31st at 9am or June 14th at 9am. The camps run for an entire week from Monday to Friday, 8:30-4:30pm. We recommend that you bring your own lunch. Breaks will be provided, and snacks will be for sale at the Folly Beach County Park. Hot foods are available at the pier as well. The weekly camps cost $198 for nonresidents. Charleston County Residents rates are $180.

It is recommended that you sign up as early as possible for these camps, as they tend to fill up quickly. Many teenagers are eager to learn lifesaving skills and use their new found abilities in the many upcoming summer jobs on the beach, at their local waterparks, clubhouse pools, or even their own back yard. The camps are headed by qualified counselors and lifeguards who are dedicated to teaching you or your child how to be the best lifeguard possible.
