Fall Updates & Volunteer Opportunities

Moonlight Mixers Season Ending

The Folly Pier Moonlight Mixers series has ended for 2015 with a huge bash on September 18th. The event occurs once a month during the summer at the end of the Edwin S Taylor Fishing Pier with DJ Jim Bowers playing the hottest shag tunes on the Edge of America. The family friendly event will begin again next May with food and beverages available for purchase from Locklear’s Beach City Grill and the Gangplank Gift and Tackle Shop. For safety purposes, line dancing is not allowed during this event, as the city wishes to preserve the integrity of the pier’s structure. The Mixers are presented by Coca Cola, Southern Eagle Distributing, and the Charleston County Parks.

Wheels to Surf – Volunteer Opportunity

A therapeutic clinic for people with physical limitations will be held at Folly Beach on September 26th from 10-4pm. The free Wheels to Surf adaptive surfing clinic provides people with disabilities an opportunity to learn how to surf by using modified surfing equipment along with the aid of volunteers. The organizers have reached out to our community to ask for extra volunteers for this very special surfing clinic. Each participant requires up to 8 volunteers, and as of the date of this publication, there are only enough volunteers for 2 participants. No surfing experience is required, but volunteers should be comfortable being in the ocean. Training will be provided prior to the 26th. If interested and available, please log into  www.myvolunteerpage.com or go to www.ccprc.com/volunteer. If you have any questions, contact erenner@ccprc.com.

Jazz on the Edge

The weekly Jazz on the Edge event previously held at the Island Grill and Bar has changed venues. You can now find the weekly series at Locklear’s on the fishing pier every Sunday from 6-9pm. Artists join together to bring the stylish musical event to the Edge of America and include some of the top talents from the Charleston Symphony as well as other gifted musicians from around the lowcountry. Fans are invited to bring their lawn chairs to relax and enjoy a sample of jazz styles ranging from classic, ragtime, swing, Chicago, to Bossa Nova. Food and beverages are available for purchase. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
