Bowen’s Save the Light Benefit

Bowen’s Island hosted its annual Save the Light Benefit this past Sunday. Hundreds of supporters showed up for the festive event, and 100% of the proceeds went to SavetheLight.org, an organization who handles the upkeep and maintenance of the Morris Island Lighthouse.

Bowen’s Restaurant is well known for its seafood restaurant located off Folly Road just outside of Folly Beach. Their docks are a great place for fishermen and crabbers to sit for a relaxing day too.

The event utilized the expansive space with outdoor bars, a huge grill with hot dogs rolling out by the dozens, a huge room filled with condiments and enormous pots of spicy chili warming up the masses. Shakin’ Martini’s and Friends rocked out the outdoor dining room, and people enjoyed the beautiful sunny day on the dock.

It was the perfect day for the event, as the past week was freezing cold with temperatures hitting in the teens. Temps on Sunday reached the low 50’s and were fairly warm for this time of year. Oyster fans took advantage of this and crowded the oyster rooms in masses to suck down juicy oysters harvested off of the Folly River.

If you missed out on this year’s event, plan on attending in the future. It’s a lot of fun, a family friendly and pet friendly environment (on leashes), and all for a great cause! We’d love to see you there next time.
