Beth Corrigan’s Home Away From Home

It took Beth Corrigan and her family years of vacationing on the beaches of North and South Carolina before they finally found the place that fit their needs just right.

Corrigan said she has always loved the beach, but wanted a place that could offer the natural beauty of the coast and the conveniences of the city. She said she stumbled upon Folly Beach after a family member needed medical care in Charleston and she took a day to drive out to Folly Beach to see what it was all about.

“I’d never been to Folly; I’d never even heard of it,” she said. “As soon as I saw it I fell in love with the place.”

When Corrigan first visited Folly Beach she said she was only looking for a place to vacation in the summer, but quickly realized that Folly Beach was the only beach for her.

“It’s just beautiful,” she said. “I love being able to walk everywhere. I thought it was just the perfect place for my family.”

Corrigan said once she came across a condo that was for sale she knew she couldn’t turn away. She knew Folly Beach would become her home away from home.

Corrigan’s beach rental is on the top floor of a 12-unit building across the street from the beach with a full ocean view from its 17-foot long balcony.

“The view is incredible,” she said. “It’s breathtaking.”

Corrigan said she knew instantly the condo had to be hers and she figured she would buy it now and rent it out to vacationers until she could move down south permanently. However, she wasn’t without anxieties as she purchased her second home.

“I got nervous,” she said. “I thought, what if nobody goes to the beach anymore?”

Corrigan said to soothe her nerves she decided to hire an interior decorator to make sure her new condo on the beach could hold its own against other rental properties.

“I’ve spent my life renting places for vacation and I knew what I wanted,” she said. “I always want to stay in a place that’s pretty and that’s what this place is. It’s upscale, but comfortable and modern. I wanted renters to pick ours over another place, so I told the decorator to make it look beautiful.”

Afterwards, Corrigan said she hired a professional photographer to take the photographs of the property so that renters would be able to see the quality of the space they’d be renting for their vacation.

All of Corrigan’s efforts worked. In March of 2010, Corrigan’s condo, which was already listed with Avocet Properties, offered 41 weeks for renters and 33 of those weeks were already booked.

“It was an unbelievable response,” she said. “Avocet said it takes about three years for a new property to really get going and we were already almost fully booked. I was just flabbergasted.”

Now that Corrigan knows the ropes of the vacation rental process and has her place on the coast she said she is even more excited to come to Folly Beach as often as she can.

“This has been just an amazing adventure and so much fun,” she said. “I love Folly and I just want to move there now. I can’t wait to get back there.”

About Corrigan’s Condo: The property sleeps six and offers three bedrooms and three bathrooms. It has central heating and air condition, cable TV, elevator, dishwasher, washer/dryer, parking, full kitchen, Jacuzzi in the master bedroom, and much more.
