5th Annual Shamrock SUP Race

The Folly Beach-based company Charleston SUP Safaris is celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day by inviting the community to join them for their Fifth Annual Folly River Shamrock SUP Race from 10 am. – 2 pm. on Sunday, March 13 to benefit Youth 2 Ocean. Y20 states that their goal is, ” to provide youth development through opportunities in water sports, environmental education, and exploration of nature, especially for under-served and at-risk youth.”

The theme for this year’s races is “Go Green.” Participants are encouraged to wear as much green as possible to be eligible to win some great prizes. The races are designed to get everyone from well-seasoned paddleboard enthusiasts to novice  fans and even kids and dogs out on the water (granted dogs can only participate on the paddleboards with a person).

There will be four races the day of the event. The 10k Elite Race begins at 11 a.m. and the 5k Recreational Race begins at 11:05 a.m., both have a registration fee of $60 the day of or $50 for preregistration. The Kids Race begins at 1 p.m. and the Dog SUP event begins at 1:30 p.m., both have a registration fee of $25.

SUP boards will be available to rent on the day of the even, courtesy of SUP Safaris, for $10.

In addition to the races, there will be a silent auction that includes a Folly Beach getaway and raffle for SUP gear, restaurant gift cards, hats, and T-shirts. Meet up afterwards at 83 Center Street for the awards ceremony where the winners in each category will be recognized. Immediately following the awards, make your way to Surf Bar (103 W. COoper Ave.) for free drinks, food, and music!
