24th Annual Sea and Sand Festival Set for Late March

The Folly Beach Business Association is hosting the 24th Annual Sea and Sand Festival on March 28-30th this year on Center Street, covering a 5 block area with two stages, 6 bands, and a huge variety of family friendly entertainment. This will be the last festival of the off-season. Proceeds from the event go to the Folly Beach Parks and Recreation Center. A portion of this year’s funds will be earmarked to bring back the Ferris Wheel.

Ben Bounds, Director for the FBBA says, “It’s so popular… we need to bring it back full time, at least during tourist season.” Friday night’s festivities will open with the first Miss Sea and Sand Festival Pageant. Tickets are just $5. The rest of the festival is free to attend with approximately 100 vendors, restaurants and bars to fulfill any food or beverage needs. Bounce houses, face painting, games and other amenities will be set up for kids throughout the event. Dogs on leashes are also invited to come and enjoy the party, but please be mindful to clean up any messes that may occur.

The Tides Kick Off Classic Surfing Competition open up Saturday morning with the finals on Sunday morning. The Coffin Island 5k Run is expected to start at 9am Saturday. If you are trying to go to these events, make sure to head out early as traffic could become an issue. The street party will begin from 10-5pm. Along with the pageant winners, retired NFL player Reggie Kelly will be available to sign autographs and take pictures with fans. There will also be a silent auction to collect money for pier improvements, beach renovations, and other designated repairs. 2 stages on opposite ends will host 5 bands. The band lineup includes: Guilt Ridden Troubadors, 54 Bicycles, Rollin’ in the Hay, Weigh Station, and Rusty Hook Ramblers.

After the surfing competition concludes on Sunday around noon, there will be a Sand Sculpting competition between teams from 1-4pm. The East Coast Party Band is expected to close out the festival from 3-6pm. This well planned festival will be fun for everybody, but Mr. Bounds reminds us, “Party responsibly. We want everyone to be safe.”
